The History of the Founding of the Schools Division office (SDO) of Science City of Munoz

 Along with the historical founding of the First Science City in the Philippines, all aspects of living gradually improve because of the modern way and the state –of- the- art facilities within the city which pave the way to a better community, a better place for research having the various development agencies that would give opportunity for advancement.

The dream of the former City Mayor, Engr. Efren L. Alvarez, PhD of turning the city into a Science City of Munoz, came to reality through Republic Act No. 8977 (An act converting the Municipality of Munoz in the Province of Nueva Ecija into a Component City to be known as the Science City of Munoz) on December 9, 2000. The establishment of the Science City of Munoz Schools Division was proposed and made possible by the concerned efforts and support of the Local Government Unit by virtue of RA 8977 otherwise known as City Charter. From the approved Resolution No. 38, series 2003 by the honorable members of the Sangguniang Panglungsod, and in accordance to DepEd Order No. 50, series 2002 during the time of the former Secretary of Education Edilberto de Jesus, the Interim City Schools Division of Science City of Munoz from being a district of the division of Nueva Ecija was established.

With the strong determination to provide quality education, the Interim City Schools Division of Munoz started its operation at Munoz National High School occupying the Home Economics Building. It was led by Dr. Simeon S. Barlis, ASDS of Cabanatuan Division who became the OIC-SDS of the Interim City Schools Division of Science City of Munoz from March 7, 2003 up to July 12, 2003 with the following Interim Division Supervisors assigned to handle the different learning areas:

Administrative Section

  1. Corazon M. Tabing- ACTING ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER (AO)

Dr. Gereno R. Antonio, ASDS/OIC of Nueva Ecija Division took the leadership of the Interim City Schools Division of Science City of Munoz from July 13, 2003 up to December 16, 2006 with the new designated officials:

  2. Evelinda Casimiro- Acting Finance Officer
  3. Emmanuel d. Alvarez- Physical Facilities and Liaison Officer

After a year, Ms. Marieta Cargamento requested to be relieved from her assignment and she was replaced by Mr. Bernardo Gargabite. On the other hand, Mrs. Eleonor R. Landingin assigned as the Education Supervisor in Araling Panlipunan was replaced by Mrs. Milda B. Madarang.

To give more quality service to the public, the Office of the Interim Schools Division was transferred temporarily to the office of the Senior Citizen (now ENRO). After sometime, the office was transferred to Munoz North Central School and functioned there for three (3) years. When Munoz North Central School was blazed, the office transferred to the Conference Hall of Munoz Central School where Dr. Alberto P. Saludez served as the OIC-SDS from December 17, 2006 up to July 2007 with the division supervisors. During that time, there were changes that took place and additional personnel were given assignments with additional tasks.

During the administration of Dr. May B. Eclar as ASDS/OIC from July 2007 up to September 18, 2008, the Division of Science City of Munoz came into being. It transferred to its permanent site in Barangay Rizal, Science City of Munoz. In the same month, OIC for important positions were assigned and non- teaching personnel were hired to make its operation smooth and to provide quality service. The following were the Education supervisors who became part of the administration:

A new leader in the person of Dr. Esperanza L. Laya was assigned as OIC- ASDS from September 19, 2008 up to October30, 2008. She became a full-pledge SDS on October 31, 2008 and served up to march 12, 2012. During that time, there were permanent positions created and the following served as Education Supervisor I:

After the administration of Dr. Laya as SDS, Dr. Teresa D. Mababa took over as OIC-SDS from March 13, 2012 up to September 12, 2012.

A new administrator came to lead the division in the person of Dr. Rhodora T. Razon as OIC-SDS from September 13, 2012 up to October 9, 2013. She became a full-pledge SDS on October 10, 2013 and it was Dr. Catalina P. Paez who became the OIC-ASDS. It was in that year when the different offices intended for the supervisors and other facilities were inaugurated together with the new administration aiming to start a functional and well service-centered Division of Science City of Munoz. That was also the time when Integrated Schools of SDO Munoz existed to give equal chance and opportunity of education for those learners living in the remote areas of the City.

It was also during the administration of Dr. Razon when the Rationalization of the Division of Science City of Munoz was implemented. The following offices were created under the Rationalization (RAT) Plan:

A change in the administration of the Division of Science City of Munoz took place and it was Dr. Catalina P. Paez who served as SDS from March 24, 2015 up to October 20, 2019. As the former OIC-ASDS for almost Three (3) years, she continued to develop good relationship with the LGU-Munoz under the leadership of Mayor Nestor L. Alvarez which resulted to the improved condition of the schools having support from the Local government. The partner of SDS Catalina Paez in managing the division was the OIC-ASDS Sir Ronilo E. Hilario from January 8, 2016 up to November 5, 2018. During their term, the SDO Munoz has received ISO 9001:2015 recognition on October, 2018. After the tenure of Sir Ronilo E. Hilario as OIC-ASDS, he was replaced by Sir William Roderick R. Fallorin as OIC-ASDS from November 6, 2018 up to July 17, 2020.

From October 21, 2019 up to the present, the SDO-Science City of Munoz is under the leadership and supervision of SDS Dante G. Parungao, CESO VI with the assistance of Dr. Zurex T. Bacay, PhD as ASDS since July18, 2020

With the call to heal as one because of the pandemic affecting the entire world, the SDO-Science City of Munoz, together with the 38 School Heads, 407 Elementary School Teachers, 381 Secondary School Teachers and 9 ALS Mobile Teachers from the 34 elementary schools, 7 secondary schools and 11 CLCs, the Division of Science City of Munoz continuously respond to the challenges brought about by the present time.

At present, the Schools Division of Science City of Munoz is comprised of 30 school heads/principals and 414 teachers in the elementary, 8 principals and 384 secondary and integrated teachers from the public schools. On the other hand, the private schools have 97 teachers in the elementary level and 25 teachers in the secondary from the 13 schools which are managed by school directress/ school heads.

The total number of learners of the entire division from Kinder to grade-12 from public and private schools in all grade level is 23,013.

Through the able leadership of SDS Dante G. Parungao, CESO VI, the Schools Division of Science City of Munoz remains steadfast in performing its role to upgrade the quality of instruction, to respond to the need of each learner, and to ensure that each child is given the right education to be prepared for the future.
